HONDURAS MUSIC

Punta is a garifuna music and dance style performed at celebrations and festive occasions. A dance and music created by the Garifuna people of present day St. vincent and Dominica.

Honduras is home to several well-known musicians and bands who demonstrate different styles of Honduras music. Some Honduran bands and artists have been around for years, playing the music of Honduras throughout various parts of the world, such as the musicial groups Khaoticos  (Khaos, from San Pedro Sula), The Dung Beetles, The Fruit Loops, and Extreme Latino Rock.

A well-known duo performing with a fusion of reggaeton and urban rhythms, Cesar Castaneda (Csarec), singer and composer, born in San Pedro Sula, and Jaime Colindres (Jimmy James), singer and songwriter, born in Tegucigalpa, have become one of the most famous duos in Honduras. Csarec and Jimmy James both dreamed of being artists/singers from a very young age, writing their own lyrics and making their own music. They eventually fused their styles and became what is now known as “Yerbaklan”.

In 2005, Csarec and Jimmy James were recognized as “Duo of the Year”, and received top radio and television rotations with their hit “La Vaquerita”. They even traveled and performed, promoting Honduran music throughout Guatemala and San Pedro,
Belize for Costa Maya.
